Rescue
Thelma was originally a battery hen, living on an egg farm. When she reached the age of two she was rescued by a lady alongside several of her friends and siblings. Several years passed and sadly Thelma's friends passed on until she was on her own. Her owner asked if we could take Thelma in.

Rehabilitation
Thelma walks with an obvious limp, one leg having been broken at a time and having never been set or healed properly, leaving it twisted.

Thelma lived for a couple of years alongside some of our older hens but as she got older her leg gave her more issues and she had to be seperated from the others to stop them from knocking her over.

Thelma moved into the Cabin at night and spent her days in the garden.

Residency
Thelma still rules the Cabin and enjoys her daily exercise in the front garden; often she will go into a run to prevent the other hens and roosters from rough housing with her.

She can still see everyone and talk to them but she is protected. She knows her routine so well and will be sitting waiting by her pen door when it's bedtime. She's a happy little hen who enjoys meeting people at the sanctuary and sharing her story.
