Christie and Mark's Seven Sevens Challenge Walk for Crosskennan Sanctuary

Myself and my wonderful fiance, Mark are putting ourselves through the biggest test of endurance and strength (both physically and mentally) we have ever attempted! All in aid of Crosskennan Animal Lane Sanctuary to help ease the strains of overcrowding of their very, very cute residents. Crosskennan take in mistreated, sick, rejected and neglected animals of all shapes and sizes including (but not limited to) cats; dogs; hens; ducks; donkeys; the odd ferret and of course horses and ponies. They are the only welfare and recuse organisation for horses and ponies in Northern Ireland and have been a registered charity since 1996.

I have always cared deeply for all creatures big and small but if any of you know me, you will know I have an especially soft spot in my heart for horses and ponies and know how challenging and expensive caring for these beautiful animals can be.

They require lots of space, quite often a lot of veterinary care and more food than you would care to think. Unfortunately, this means many people struggle to care for these amazing animals and they end up at Crosskennan Animal Lane Sanctuary. Where the volunteers ensure their new guests get vet care, shelter, food and as much love and hugs as they can dish out.

Crosskennan strive to rehabilitate and re-home as many of the animals as they can however, due to health, age and behaviour some of these poor babies just cannot be re-homed and live out the remainder of their days at the sanctuary. Meaning more food, more land, more shelter and more vet bills!  This is why Mark and I are putting ourselves through a gruelling endurance test where we must ascend 8100ft over 28km in less than 12hrs on the 10th August 2019 covering the seven highest peaks of the Mournes in the Seven Sevens Challenge (see link below).

We have already started our difficult training regime and can frequently be found struggling up the Mountains at the weekend (usually very red faced and out of breath) if you are about please do come over and say hello, we would love to chat more about what we are doing!

Our goal is to reach our fundraising target of £2500 before the event in August in order to help Crosskennan care for the animals that have been let down by other humans before, together we can help provide shelter and land for the permanent residents and aid the re-homing of the guests that just need some tlc before moving on to live with their forever humans.

You will get to watch and be part of our journey through the Mourne Mountains as we train hard over the next 15 weeks to achieve this goal to help a wonderful charity doing some absolutely amazing work. I will also be providing updates from Crosskennan and their residents so you can get a glimpse into the wonderful work they volunteers do and what can be accomplished with your help.

Do something extraordinary for this fantastic charity and help us smash this goal out of the water!

Thanks!

Christie and Mark
