Day 11 of our countdown to Christmas and Ned is our cover star, although his request is for the whole yard and is one of our most needed items! That's right, buckets!
We use rubber tubs for the horses, not only do they not have any sharp or hard points for the silly horses and ponies to rub against and get hurt, but they don't shatter or break when they are kicked, trod on or just thrown about (looking at Ned and Denzel there!).
The problem we have at the moment is we are running very low on functioning buckets, we have amassed quite a pile of 'dirt buckets' from old water and feed buckets which have sprung holes.
Ponies like Oliver like to grab the buckets by the handles and it isn't long until they are missing a handle completely.
So we've run the numbers on what we are currently short and it's amazing how everything adds up. We are going to do this horse by horse/paddock by paddock.
We need the following Water buckets for Bob and MaGregor's Paddocks.
4 large and 4 medium of the same colour
The Ponies Paddock need
4 large and 2 medium of the same colour
Crystal and Kirby's need
2 large and 1 medium of the same colour
and 2 large and 3 medium of the same colour
Sorley Boy's Paddock need
5 medium buckets of the same colour
Barney's Block needs
5 medium and 2 small buckets of the same colour
While the Barn needs
6 medium and 6 large buckets of the same colour
We use the following -
75litre buckets (large),
42 Litre Buckets (Medium)
and 26 litre buckets (Small)
Buckets range in cost from £5 to £20 each so this is a big undertaking for the sanctuary to replace all these. The good news is some of the buckets that are no longer fit for water buckets can be used for hay as leaks don't matter! :)
On Average, we are looking at a cost of £630 to replace all buckets - honestly, we don't expect to replace them all but a few would be a start! At the moment many are patched.
Can you help towards our bucket appeal? Normally we replace when we can but this year funds have been so tight and we've been focusing on vet bills and feed so much that the bucket need has grown and grown.
If you want to send us some buckets that would be brilliant if you can just donate to helping us buy some buckets that would be absolutely incredible too!
If you want to get stuff delivered to us you can get it posted direct to Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary, 26 Crosskennan Lane, Ballynoe, Antrim, BT41 2QY
Or send us an email to crosskennan@hotmail.co.uk to arrange a drop off of donations!
Did you know you can send grocery deliveries to us too? Just let us know in advance, and you can do a ASDA, Tesco's, Sainsbury's Online delivery and get it dropped off at the sanctuary. We can make use of so much from your local supermarket, from fresh fruit and veg, to frozen peas and sweetcorn, fresh chicken, ham, liver, washing up powder/tablets, dish soap, bleach, disinfectant, toilet rolls, dog food, cat food, birdseed... The list could go on forever!
Countdown to Christmas with CLAS!
