FEED STORES ARE LOW!

We have currently over 70 cats and kittens in our care with more due in as soon as we can free up space. Lady Marmalade and Tigerlilly are two who were lifted a couple of weeks ago - coming along well in their foster home. Their sister Clare has only just been released from the vets after having toes amputated from injuries sustained before rescue. For a moment the vets suspected they would have to remove her whole leg.

There are at least 9 more to lift from that same location (12 already in our care). They all need to be spayed and neutered, all will need treated for fleas and for worms, they will need a safe place to sleep and recover while they look for their new homes, most importantly though for us art the present time - they need to be fed!

We are spending £67.17 a day on cat food (this is the cost it would be if we didn't have some food donated to us).

That soon adds up - and with us currently going through 980 sachets/pouches/tinned equivalent of wet cat food a week - and over 10kg of dry food its a lot. This is before we take treats, tuna and fresh ham and chicken into account. We are asking for help to support these cats we have in our care, helping them on their road to recovery with the aim of getting them into homes and then being able to help more who desperately need the help right now.

We know not everyone can help financially - we do understand that - but every like, comment and share helps raise awareness and reach others. We have over 30 thousand people following our Facebook page and yet often our engagement on posts is less than 10 people.

If you can help - there are a few ways to do so; Paypal.me/crosskennan

Or check out our website www.crosskennanlane.co.uk/help

You can also have food directly delivered to the sanctuary - Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary, 26 Crosskennan Lane, Ballynoe, Antrim, BT41 2QY

You can drop off donations at the above address too between 10 and 3pm any day. We must stress that this is for drop offs only and access to the yard is restricted.

These cats didn't ask to be born, they didn't ask to be left to get sick, starve, and have to fight for meals. They never asked us to step in and help them either. Animals can't ask us to help them; they don't have that voice, so we are giving them a voice and asking for them. Help us feed them; help us provide them with a future.

We would love to end the year by saying all those taken in had found new loving homes but we cannot do it without you.

Here are some who are looking for homes right now.

Sidney and Annie

Sidney is a 3-month-old Black Female, she was originally lifted from Belfast as an Orphan. She has been living with Annie at the sanctuary since arriving and the pair are quite fond of each other and use each other for support.

Annie is a 7-month-old tabby Female, originally caught as a feral to be neutered and released; Annie instead came to live at Crosskennan and since arriving has proven not to be feral just wary of people. She would love a home where she can have time to learn to trust her people. Somewhere quiet and someone with the patience to love her even if she can never show it back. She has grown very fond of Annie and the pair often curl up together or are found perched side by side as they watch the goings-on in the yard.

Foster 1

Miss Clara is a 6-month-old Black and White female who was found straying, caught and spayed. She is very nervous but with time and care, we believe she will come around although will never be a lap cat. She has let her fosterer hold her in a towel and has been completely checked over. She's shown a disdain for some of the other cats in the foster home, especially when they try and engage her so her nerves span all species it would appear. She would love a home where she can just get to be a cat, living on her terms but with someone willing to try for her, and work with her to gain her trust and we hope affection.

Mango is a 4-month-old Black kitten - she originally came off a farm, full of worms, and suffering from ear mites. She's doing well in her foster home and will be spayed soon. She does enjoy the company of other cats although prefers them not to be so playful or at least know when to take a break. She was quite nervous on rescue and it's something her fosterer has been working on. She would love a home of her own where she can get some one-on-one time.

Lady Marmalade is a 4-month-old Female Tortie. She originally came off a farm, full of worms, and suffering from ear mites. She's doing well in her foster home and will be spayed soon. She was quite nervous on rescue and it's something her fosterer has been working on. She would love a home of her own where she can get some one-on-one time.

Tigerlilly is a 4-month-old Female Tabby kitten. She originally came off a farm, full of worms, and suffering from ear mites. She's doing well in her foster home and will be spayed soon. She was quite nervous when rescued and it's something her fosterer has been working on. She would be the most nervous out of all her siblings and would really benefit from a quiet home where she can get some one-on-one time. She could be potentially rehomed alongside her sister Lady Marmalade as she gets comfort from the presence of the other.

Foster 2

James is a 16 weeks old black male kitten. He came in alongside his sisters Clara and Chloe after being orphaned. He's done well in his foster home where he's lived with dogs and young children. He's a boisterous and playful boy, always ready for a game.

He would benefit from a home with another cat to play with or someone who can be there to play with him. He's ready to go all the time. He does have his downtime though and has the loudest purr when curled up on a lap getting attention.

Foster 3

Marsha is a 4-month-old Female Tabby kitten. She originally came off a farm and was full of worms and generally filthy. She's doing well in her foster home and will be spayed soon. She was quite nervous when rescued and it's something her fosterer has been working on. She could be potentially rehomed alongside one of her siblings but she's quite an independent lady so it's not a requirement.

Cheeky Toby is a 4-month-old male black kitten. He originally came off a farm and was full of worms and generally filthy. He's doing well in his foster home and will be neutered soon. He was quite nervous when rescued and it's something his fosterer has been working on. He's really coming out of his shell and as his name suggests has a cheeky personality and starting to play. He could be potentially rehomed alongside one of his siblings but he's quite an independent boy so it's not a requirement.

Wilbur is a 4-month-old male black kitten with a white star on his chest. He originally came off a farm and was full of worms and generally filthy. He's doing well in his foster home and will be neutered soon. He was quite nervous when rescued and it's something his fosterer has been working on. He's really coming out of his shell and is a beautiful boy. He could be potentially rehomed alongside one of his siblings but he's quite an independent boy so it's not a requirement.

Chase is a 4-month-old male black kitten. He originally came off a farm and was full of worms and generally filthy. He's doing well in his foster home and will be neutered soon. He was quite nervous when rescued and it's something his fosterer has been working on. He's the timidest of the 4 although is coming around. He could be potentially rehomed alongside one of his siblings or could benefit from living with another cat in the home as he would receive some comfort from this.

Foster 4

Tabitha is a 4-month-old Female tortie kitten. She originally came off a farm and was full of worms and generally filthy. She's doing well in her foster home and will be spayed soon. She was quite nervous when rescued and it's something her fosterer has been working on. She is a beautiful girl who seems to enjoy annoying her siblings, with her latest being lying on top of the igloo bed when they are inside. She could be potentially rehomed alongside one of her siblings.

Lincoln is a 4-month-old male Tabby kitten. He originally came off a farm and was full of worms and generally filthy. He's doing well in his foster home and will be neutered soon. He was quite nervous when rescued and it's something his fosterer has been working on. He's really coming out of his shell as is his personality and he's starting to play. He could be potentially rehomed alongside one of his siblings.

Sabrina is a 4-month-old Female black kitten. She originally came off a farm and was full of worms and generally filthy. She's doing well in her foster home and will be spayed soon. She was quite nervous when rescued and it's something her fosterer has been working on. She is a beautiful girl who's personality is just starting to show. She could be potentially rehomed alongside one of her siblings.

Foster 5

We also have 3 siblings who are four months old and who are more nervous of people. They were lifted from the same location as some of our other orphans although they were a little bit older. They have come a long way in their foster home but it's clear they will never be lap cats, but they would love a home of their own where they can continue to live a life they've grown accustomed to in their foster home and with someone who will respect their boundaries but also be able to work with them one on one and gain their trust. They will make wonderful companions to the right person able to give them the chance they deserve.

We also are looking for homes for cats and kittens over 8 months of age. Including the following;

Kitt and Solomon

Solomon (tabby) and Kitt (black) - a very special home for a very special pair 🐱🐱. This adorable duo have been living together in a foster home for about 2 1/2 years and are best friends. Through no fault of their own, they are now looking for their forever home together. They are around 3 and 4 years old, are extremely affectionate and love being groomed.

They are indoor cats and would love a quiet home and a knee to sit on. Kitt has an abnormal stance/gait affecting his back legs, which the vet suspects is neurological. This doesn't stop him from enjoying life with his bestie though, with some soft rugs to cushion any tumbles he takes.

Cissy Cissy is a playful cat just turned 1, she had a rough start to life and had poor health which is why she remained in our care for longer than any of her siblings. On her last visit to the vets she was given the all clear and is now on the lookout for a home of her own.

Michael and Rose

They are a bonded pair in need of an indoor home. They need a home willing to take their time with them and earn their trust. Michael (ginger) and Rose are two sanctuary strays - both caught at the sanctuary as sick cats. Rose had had a litter of kittens. They have been under the sanctuary care for a few months now and have blossomed. They are still wary of strangers; but happy with their carers.

They are looking for a home where they can make up their own terms; they need patience and time to come around sometimes but once they come around they are very sweet. They are looking for a home together as they enjoy each others company and find strength and confidence with each other.

George & Terrance

George and Terrance (white bib) are two nervous boys who were part of our Fairhill rescue. They've come along so well since arriving, but they are still very nervous and prefer to spend time to themselves. They know to go to their crate for bed and food and are happy with other cats and dogs. They need a lot of time to build trust.

Nancy Nancy (originally Claire online) was one of the twelve lifted at the Fairhill shopping centre in August/September 2020. She has had two litters of kittens this year alone, whilst not being much more than a baby herself. She is rather fondly known as "Hissy" due to her hiss of 'unwelcome' to intruders. She has not much sign of ever really knowing love or TLC before coming to the sanctuary and it has taken a lot for her to get as far as she has in building trust with people and confidence. Unfortunately, we just don't have the time to truly dedicate to her with so many currently calling the sanctuary home. She is currently weaning her last litter and then she will be going to get spayed. We will always have a home here for her at the sanctuary and she does get time spent with her and we will get time to work with her one on one in the future, but if there was a home out there with a special person who would be willing to work with her and to show her humans aren't all bad we would be delighted to hear from you. She knows her crate now well and although she has the run of the office and reception during the day will go into her crate at night for bed and dinner. Can you offer a place for Nancy when she is ready and help her learn to trust again? This place can be temporary or permanent! We just want her to have the best chance.

Adopt now!

Whilst every care is taken to find the right cat for you, we cannot guarantee behavior, nor can we guarantee that will have a cat suitable for you.

We have a rehoming fee of £70 for cats. All our cats are neutered and if not neutered at the time of rehoming will be required to be neutered as soon as permitted by a vet. All adoptions will only take place following meeting the cat at the sanctuary and a home check.

You can fill in an online form which will submit directly to our office. You can also download a form that you can print yourself and either post to the sanctuary Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary, 26 Crosskennan Lane, Antrim, BT41 2QY, or email to rehoming@crosskennanlane.org.uk
